The Enemy's Beachhead
by Christopher G. Adamo
Most Americans are fully aware that their country is involved in a life or death struggle with foreign forces who would rejoice at our total annihilation. Not so universally understood is the gaping breach in the nation's defenses, from which its moral strengths have been hemorrhaging, and through which a hostile army invades and positions itself for its final assault. However, neither the flood of illegal and undocumented immigrants nor the onslaught of militant Islam could truly threaten the country's future as they do, were it not for those poisonous philosophies so prevalent in American institutions that enable and empower its enemies. Consider the ominous evidence provided by some recent events.
In a reaffirmation of its previous ruling, San Francisco's ultra-liberal Ninth Circuit Court refused to reconsider its decision that the Pledge of Allegiance, because it invokes the phrase “under God”, is in violation of the Constitution. The court's previous decision suggested that for those who reject the existence of God, even hearing the phrase would somehow be excessively offensive, and therefore should not be allowed in a public setting such as a classroom.
Not too many miles to the north of San Francisco, a controversy involving contrasting religious beliefs in a public setting yielded entirely different results. Washington State Representatives Lois McMahan and Cary Condotta had originally refused to participate in a legislative invocation ceremony that was being presided over by a Muslim cleric. After blistering attacks from Muslim lobbying organizations (such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations [CAIR], who demanded that state and national Republican leaders condemn their refusal to participate, and from Kathy Erlandson of Associated Ministries of Thurston County, the “interfaith” group that schedules religious leaders to conduct the opening prayers), both McMahan and Condotta recanted and subordinated themselves henceforth to the Islamic inquisition.
It is easy to become sidetracked by focusing on CAIR's vitriolic response, when dealing with Americans of Jewish or Christian persuasions, as opposed to it's benign and even conciliatory attitude towards the monstrous abuses of human rights by radical Islamic regimes worldwide. Furthermore, in its presumption of moral superiority, CAIR doesn't get anywhere near the topic of how a Christian cleric would be treated if such an individual ever attempted to lead a Biblical prayer in front of the governing body of an Islamic state. No, CAIR is merely doing as the Koran directs, which is to pursue the universal acceptance of Islam, by persuasion when possible or failing that, through threats, intimidation, and any other means available.
More significant and alarming than the fury of Muslim advocacy groups is the widespread response among Americans, from Thurston to the Washington State Republican Caucus who, by supporting the Islamic advocacy, collaborated in their intimidation tactics. Try to imagine, if you will, the outrage and hysteria that would inevitably follow any efforts by evangelical Christian leaders to coerce unwilling Muslim legislators into participation in a Biblically based prayer service. Accusations of religious despotism would abound. Yet any such response towards CAIR has yet to materialize. Has this country, in the name of “political correctness”, completely lost its ability to stand for freedom and against the brutish tactics of pro-Islamist organizations and liberal courts that zealously seek to suppress and destroy the Christian heritage on which that freedom was founded?
Finally, consider an event that, for sheer outrageousness, may well eclipse both of those previously discussed. Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio), in a statement to the Toledo Blade, equated Osama bin Laden with America's Founding Fathers by asserting that “these non-nation-state fighters with religious purpose are very similar to the kind of atypical revolutionaries that helped to cast off the British crown.” She then built on the supposed moral equivalency as a reason America shouldn't use force in order to confront the situation in Iraq. In the face of criticism, Kaptur has attempted to “clarify” her comments, but made absolutely no effort at apology.
America has displayed the resilience needed to recover from the horrific attacks of September 11, and the might of its armed forces promises to be sufficient for any action necessary to confront the government of Iraq and neutralize its weapons of mass destruction. But neither of these qualities are a match for the malignancy which attacks the country at its very heart. If the American way of life is to prevail, another battle must be waged against those institutions in its midst that seek to destroy it from within.

Growing up during the turbulent decades of the ‘60's and ‘70's, Christopher Adamo saw, to his dismay, the nation's moral foundations being destroyed before his very eyes. But even then he was a staunch Conservative at heart, and rejected outright the tenets of America's counterculture revolution.
After a hitch in the Air Force, where he specialized in airborne electro- optical systems, he pursued a career in the field of aerospace, working for major defense contractors in California, Florida, and Colorado. But his career plans abruptly changed during the industry-wide downsizing that followed the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster.
Presently he is working in the field of industrial instrumentation in the state of Wyoming. Concurrently, he has become involved in that state's political process, attending state GOP conventions as a delegate, and serving as a member of the Wyoming Republican Central Committee. He has also aided in the candidacies of local legislators and state senators, as well as a U.S. Senator and Congresswoman.
From 1993 to 1996, he edited and wrote for “The Wyoming Christian”, the state newsletter for Christian Coalition of Wyoming. During that period, he developed an acute awareness of the harm being done to Conservatism by liberal activists within the Republican Party as well as the Democrats. This remains a favorite theme of his articles, which now appear as a regular feature on GOPUSA. |
