"The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty and the destiny of the republican model of government are justly considered... deeply, ...finally, staked on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people." - George Washington, First Inaugural Address

Curse That Unruly Peasantry

by Christopher G. Adamo

Throughout medieval times and even in the antebellum South, members of the nobility measured their wealth, in large part, by the number of slaves they possessed. With the advent of representative government, power brokers were forced to become somewhat more creative, having to make promises to the lowly masses during campaign season in the hopes of purchasing their votes on Election Day. Of course those promises need not be kept once ballots were counted. With help from a sympathetic media, a mere series of excuses would ultimately suffice to pacify the rabble. But now those commoners have really gummed up the works by actually holding one of the elite responsible for empty promises he made and for the pathetic job he's doing.

How fitting it is that, in the midst of this present day upheaval in California, a mindset similar to that of the medieval lords is being revealed as a deeply entrenched attitude within that state's Democrat Party, as well as among Democrat operatives nationwide. With each passing day, as the Davis recall continues towards its dramatic October climax, more and more evidence of their true disdain for the masses continues to seep from the murk of Democrat strategizing.

As was predictable, California Democrats still offer no real solutions to their present problems. Rather, they focus entirely on the supposed “danger” posed to civilization at large if unscrupulous politicians like Davis are made to be accountable to the lowly citizenry. With California's political system languishing under the dominance of liberals for so many years, Democrats cannot even credibly point a finger of blame at any available Republican in hopes of diverting attention from the abysmal failure of their governing philosophy. So now their only remaining political ammunition is the somewhat less-than-persuasive suggestion that a threat to Davis' political career is a threat to all that is worth protecting in Sacramento.

Rather than admitting its gross mismanagement of the public trust, the Democrat political machine, that has historically run the California political process with a heavy hand, is presently working overtime to maintain the status quo, seeking desperately to allay fears among constituents who have been dependent on it with promises of burgeoning payoffs in the future. At the same time, those who continue to advocate the recall are virulently denounced as some sort of cancer on the American political system. Most notable here is the fact that, if allowed to have their way, party Democrats clearly reveal their willingness for California's woes to continue or even to worsen, as long as it is they who remain at the helm making those crucial decisions.

Elsewhere among Democrat ranks, every notable player from former House Minority Leader Richard Gephardt, to California Senator Diane Feinstein, to Bill and Hillary, are doing their utmost to change the subject from Davis' dismal track record to their own supposed apprehension over the heritage and integrity of America's political process. This, we are expected to believe, is their real concern… that celestial cause for which they have sacrificially invested their careers, and to which they mutually pledge their lives, their fortunes and their oh-so-sacred honor.

For any who doubt that California's government, riddled as it is with arrogant socialists, is out of control, consider that above and beyond the exorbitant level of taxation already burdening its enormous population and business base, an additional twelve hundred dollars for every breathing man, woman, and child (productive or otherwise), who dwell within the state's borders, must somehow be seized from citizens and private enterprise, merely to pay the deficit in this year's budget! And yet, were such sums ever to be wrested from the pocketbooks of the citizenry, no assurance could be given that the problems facing California, such as its disgracefully inadequate education system, might actually be corrected.

Once again, it is the Democrat party against the people, just as it has been ever since the party learned that they could confiscate the earnings of one citizen in order to purchase the loyalty (and vote) of another. And though they've gotten away with portraying themselves as “the party of the little guy”, the grim reality is that they are the party that flourishes by keeping the “little guy” little, and thus dependent on them. For the peasantry to be of any worth to this self-appointed nobility, it must be maintained in its proper place, as the “cash cow” whose day-to-day toil fuels the engine of big government.

Growing up during the turbulent decades of the ‘60's and ‘70's, Christopher  Adamo saw, to his dismay, the nation's moral foundations being destroyed  before his very eyes. But even then he was a staunch Conservative at heart,  and rejected outright the tenets of America's counterculture revolution.

After a hitch in the Air Force, where he specialized in airborne  electro- optical systems, he pursued a career in the field of aerospace,  working for major defense contractors in California, Florida, and Colorado. But his career plans abruptly changed during the industry-wide downsizing that followed the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster.

Presently he is working in the field of industrial instrumentation in the state of Wyoming. Concurrently, he has become involved in that state's political process, attending state GOP conventions as a delegate, and serving as a member of the Wyoming Republican Central Committee. He has also aided in the candidacies of local legislators and state senators, as well as a U.S. Senator and Congresswoman.

From 1993 to 1996, he edited and wrote for “The Wyoming Christian”, the state newsletter for Christian Coalition of Wyoming. During that period, he developed an acute awareness of the harm being done to Conservatism by liberal activists within the Republican Party as well as the Democrats. This remains a favorite theme of his articles, which now appear as a regular feature on GOPUSA.
